Indian Shores History: From South Shore to Indian Shores

The town incorporated on September 16, 1949, as Indian Rocks Beach South Shore. Residents later voted to change the name, and Indian Shores became official on August 14, 1973. The town’s history explains that transition and the community’s early years.

Today, Gulf Boulevard connects the beach accesses, restaurants and condos along this narrow barrier island. Meanwhile, the Intracoastal side offers a different view of the town, with boats, docks and sheltered waterways. Tiki Gardens is another reminder of how the shoreline has changed: the county acquired the property in 1990, and it now serves as public beach-access parking.

Indian Shores Condo Communities

Alongside Barefoot Beach Resort, Beach Cottage, Gulf View Cabin Villa, Shore Haven and Waterside, consider Sand Castle I and II, Bayshore Yacht & Tennis Club, Sea Club and Holiday Villas II. These communities broaden the search across beachfront and Intracoastal settings. For example, Sand Castle I and II sit on the beach, while Bayshore Yacht & Tennis Club offers an Intracoastal setting.

Use the Indian Shores map search to compare available homes by subdivision, price and address. Then review the particular building and unit rather than assuming all coastal condos offer the same features. For nearby alternatives, explore Indian Rocks Beach, Redington Shores and mainland Seminole.
